Action in support of civilian prisoners
On October 17, on the anniversary of the Women's Exchange, an action dedicated to Ukrainian women political prisoners who are still being held and suffering in detention centers in the territory of the so called United Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and russia, was held on Maidan Nezalezhnosti. The event was attended by relatives and friends of those who were captured or disappeared. The open mic format gave everyone the opportunity to tell their story. Being in torture chambers, basements, pits, prisons, colonies without any rights is hell. There is no access to communication, they are abused every day morally and physically. This is evidenced by those released from captivity. The action was organized by the NGO "SEMA Ukraine". The initiators of the event drew attention to the situation of female civilian prisoners of war who are subjected to physical and sexual violence in captivity. The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine joined the action, calling for solidarity with captured women, including journalists: Iryna Danylovych, Iryna Levchenko, and Viktoria Roshchyna. Iryna Danylovych was abducted on April 29, 2022 in Koktebel. Iryna Levchenko and her husband disappeared on May 6 in Russian-occupied Melitopol. Two weeks later, it was found out that the couple was detained without explanation by the occupation authorities. Viktoria Roshchyna went missing during a trip to the occupied territories. She has not been in touch with her family since August 3. All the participants of the rally signed an appeal to the President to speed up the implementation of the mechanism for the release of civilian prisoners and the creation of a relevant register.
