Training on the topic “FIRST PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSISTANCE"

20 листопада 2023

Women of the NGO "SEMA Ukraine" attended a five-day training on the topic

“FIRST PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSISTANCE",

TRAUMA-INFORMED APPROACH IN IDENTIFYING CASES AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT FOR VICTIMS OF WAR-RELATED VIOLENCE, INCLUDING GENDER-BASED/SEXUAL VIOLENCE”  and received certificates!

During five days 20 participants from different corners of the country :
✅mastered the rules of first psychological assistance;
✅learned to work with traumatic experiences that manifest as stress reactions, acute stress disorder, and PTSD;
✅studied the impact of traumatic experiences on family relationships and methods of helping victims of violence, including sexual violence related to the war.
The participants of the training in Uzhhorod already have considerable experience in responding to war-related violence and assisting victims. Among them were representatives of Sema Ukraine, a community of women who transform their traumatic experience into post-traumatic growth, and representatives of the Survivors Assitance Centres. It is important that the participants had the opportunity not only to gain new knowledge, but also to share their own experiences, successful practices, and hold meaningful discussions to better hear the victims themselves on the principle of "nothing for us without us."
???? The ability to provide first aid is extremely important, especially in a full-scale war.
"There is a pyramid of mental health interventions and psychosocial support in an emergency situation, including armed conflicts. It is based on the principle of multi-level support for affected persons, meeting the needs of different groups. After all, the population during such events is affected differently and accordingly, needs different types of support. Therefore, all available resources and capacities should be used, including those available at the local level,"
UNFPA experts say.
We thank the participants for their willingness to improve their knowledge, and we continue to work on developing our support services, in particular, the program of recovery and rehabilitation of women and girls who have suffered from war-related violence, including sexual violence.
The training was conducted by UNFPA, The UN Population Fund in Ukraine, in partnership with NGO Nehemiah Ukraine with financial support from the Government of France Ambassade de France en Ukraine.
The trainers were psychotherapists from the Aurora online psychotherapeutic assistance platform, a joint initiative of UNFPA, The UN Population Fund on Ukraine, The Office of Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration та the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy Kateryna Levchenko, with the support of British Embassy Kyiv.
