SEMA Ukraine

SEMA Ukraine is Ukrainian women who suffered from sexual and gender-based violence (hereinafter - SGBV) as a result of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine and have an active civil position.

What is our mission?
1. Eradication of sexual and gender-based violence as a weapon of war.
2. Protection of the rights, freedoms and public interests of women affected by war-related SGBV. Help in solving economic, social, cultural, psychological and other problems of its members.

  

What is the purpose and directions of our activity?
   1. To increase public awareness of the realities, causes and consequences of SHO during the armed conflict (war) in Ukraine;
   2. Maintain a safe platform for wartime GBV survivors to come together and talk about wartime sexual and gender-based violence and related issues;
   3. To promote a holistic model of care for victims, which combines psychosocial, legal support and support for the development of means for providing medical assistance;
   4. Advocate for the impossibility of using sexual violence as a weapon of war.

 

What do we do?
1) We unite and support women who survived the SGB during the war in Ukraine;
2) we conduct advocacy work, which is manifested in the interaction of the organization with state authorities, local self-government bodies, enterprises, institutions, organizations of various forms of ownership, establishment of partnership relations with other public organizations, movements, funds registered in Ukraine or abroad, citizens of Ukraine, foreigners and/or stateless persons;
3) we are engaged in documenting testimonies (and helping to document testimonies) and informing society about the crimes of the occupiers at the national and international level in order to make it impossible to use SGN as a weapon of war;
4) direct efforts to bring to justice the persons guilty of SGN during the war;
5) we carry out information and explanatory work and educational activities;
6) search for and attract new victims to the network;
7) we organize assistance to victims of domestic violence (which includes social, legal, medical and other support for such persons), as well as measures for the recovery and material support of both the victimized women themselves and their family members, in particular, children.
